Ellen Page Comes Out as Gay During an Inspiring Speech
Last Friday night, Ellen Page, the 26 year old Halifax native, delivered an emotional speech during the Time to Thrive conference - an LGBT (lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual) youth event sponsored by the gay advocacy group Human Rights Campaign.
During the speech Page stated that she was “tired of lying by omission,” in an industry that has “crushing standards… Standards of beauty, of a good life, of success. Standards that I hate to admit, affected me.”
The actress received a standing applause at the end of her speech which was also linked through Facebook, garnering over 30,000 likes and 3,000 comments. While many are praising her speech there are those who believe that it should also be played in high schools all over the world.
Though he message surely cannot be summed up, it can be booked marked by her hope that everyone, “Deserves to experience love fully, equally, without shame and without compromise.”
