With the summer upon us, two things are certain to happen: rising temperatures and loud music. Canada is quickly becoming one of the places for outdoor music festivals, and whether you’re into folk, country, EDM or hip-hop, chances are there’s a festival waiting for you to enjoy.

Osheaga | Montreal, QC | July 31 – August 2
This multi-day indie music festival has been held annually at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Sainte-Hélène every summer since 2006. It takes place across five stages with various audience capacities, and has quickly established itself as the most important festival of its genre in Canada. A huge draw of Osheaga is its dedication to discovering local and national emerging talent, offering them the opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest international artists. The festival attracts an average of 120,000 music lovers per year.

WayHome | Oro-Mendente, ON | July 24-26
In 2015, AC Entertainment, a co-producer of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, announced their partnership with Canadian promoter/producer Republic Live to produce the inaugural WayHome Music and Arts Festival, a three-day music and arts festival to be held near Barrie, Ontario. According to Republic Live, the goal of WayHome is to match the scale of a Bonnaroo or a Coachella. Headliners will include Sam Smith, Kendrick Lamar, Alt-J, and Neil Young.

Bestival | Toronto, ON | June 12-13
Winner of the UK Festival Awards ‘Best Major Festival’ in 2010 and 2012, Torontonians should feel privileged that Bestival has chosen Toronto as the location of its first-ever North American stop. Bestival is often described as the ideal festival for those who like odd, yet innovative boutique festivals, and is one that encourages fancy dress. While the British Bestival will be taking place on its usual dates in early September, the North American Bestival will be held on the Toronto Islands in June.

Bluesfest | Ottawa, ON | July 9-19
People travel from far and wide to attend Bluesfest, and music fans in Ottawa look forward to opening night with uncontrollable anticipation. Year after year, this award winning, multi-stage music extravaganza is the biggest outdoor music festival in Canada. It is also widely considered to be one of the most important music events in North America, with thousands of national and international artists featured annually at Lebreton Flats Park in downtown Ottawa.

Veld | Toronto, ON | August 1-2
This two-day music festival is held at Downsview Park in Toronto. The inaugural event took place on August 4 and 5, 2012, and featured some of the biggest stars and labels in Electronic Dance Music. The inaugural headliners included Deadmau5 and Avicii; the 2013 edition was headlined by Deadmau5 and Above & Beyond. This year’s festival will once again be headlined by Deadmau5, along with Hardwell and other special guests.
