Toronto Maple Leafs Trying to Stay Positive

According to Toronto Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle, a quiet dressing room is a “sure, tell sign” of the “shock factor, the depressed whatever state you want,” which is exactly what the Leafs are feeling after a continuous 8-game loss.

It isn’t even really a strange thing to watch as the Leafs once again make it close to a playoff spot before ultimately crumbling. It would almost be a right of passage for Leaf fans to experience if it didn’t happen almost every year.

Just two weeks ago Toronto held in the palm of their hands a playoff spot, but after eight games they have dropped to tenth in the Eastern Conference standings and currently hold a 4.9% chance of qualifying. Yet, according to Leafs forward Dave Bolland, “You have to stay positive. You can’t think of the negatives.”

With few games left on the docket that could help turn the tides in Toronto’s favour, the Leafs are willing to do almost anything to secure their playoff chances, including bringing up 23-year-old Jerry D’Amigo from the minors. But if history has shown, Leaf fans shouldn’t hold their breath.

Luckily, Toronto won last night against the Calgary Flames, so maybe there is a bit of hope.
