A Sample of Taste of Toronto
Last night, foodies and Toronto’s top celebrity chefs rubbed elbows at the official launch party of Taste of Toronto. Taking place at 2nd Floor Events on King St., the event provided a sneak peek of the first ever Taste of Toronto celebration, which is set to take place at Fort York on July 24-27.
Delectable hors d’oeuvres came courtesy of Toronto’s top eateries and culinary companies, including the McEwan Group, The Grove, Patria, Weslodge, Byblos, Richmond Station, Harbord Room, JaBistro, Guu Izakaya, Kinton Ramen, Khao San Road, El Cabaillito and more. Standout dishes of the night were the Pulled Chicken Tacos by El Caballito, Lamb Bolognese with Minted Ricotta by the McEwan Group, Chili Shrimp by Khao San Road, and Mini Beef Burgers by Richmond Station.
Spotted in the crowd was Mark McEwan, famed celebrity chef, restaurateur and head judge on Food Network Canada’s Top Chef Canada. Also in attendance were David Chang, founder of the Momofuku restaurant group, Top Chef Canada winner Carl Heinrich, Chef David Neinstein of Barque Smokehouse, Anthony Rose, chef and co-owner of Rose and Sons, and many more familiar faces from the culinary world.
If last night’s sampling is any indication of what’s in store this summer, then foodies are in for a real treat. An expected 20,000 visitors will descend upon Fort York during Taste of Toronto, which will feature 16 of Toronto’s top restaurants and over 50 exhibitors.
American Express card members are encouraged to take advantage of the special Food Lovers Package, which includes two general admission tickets, two drink vouchers, $30 worth of ‘Crowns’ (the festival currency), and a gift choice from the Taste Producers Market valued at over $40. Package price for two people is $99 plus applicable taxes.
