Wrestling in general is not known to bring tears to a person’s eyes, let alone to the crowd in attendance, but that’s exactly what happened during a high school wrestling championship in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mitchell McKee, who attends St. Michael Albertville High School, is a star athlete on the wrestling team. His father, Steve McKee, has been to every one of his son’s matches, and in December was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given two months to live.

After Mitchell successfully pinned his opponent, Malik Stewart, winning the match, Malik surprised everyone by walking over to Steve to give him a handshake, which turned into a heartfelt hug that brought the attendees to tears.

Malik later told KARE 11 that, “I went through the same thing when I was younger but my dad didn’t pass by cancer. It was by a heart attack. So I know what he’s going through.”
