Forbes’ List of Canada’s Richest
Of the 1,645 billionaires worldwide, 32 of them are Canadians. Topping the list of filthy-rich Canucks is David Thomson, chairman of Thomson-Reuters, who has a net worth of $22.6 billion. In a not so close second is Galen Weston, controlling shareholder of Loblaw companies and Wonder Bread, with $8.5 billion.
Despite the fact that 32 Canadians appear on the list, a number of countries including the U.S., Mexico, France, Italy, Spain and Nigeria have at least one billionaire who ranks higher than Thomson. In fact, the United States has 17 private fortunes that are larger than Thomson’s.
