Astros’ Jon Singleton Battles with Marijuana Addiction
Jon Singleton has a great deal going for him at the moment and is considered the top first-base prospect in baseball. He is also being lauded as the player that is expected to bring the Houston Astros out of its straight 100-loss season.
However, Singleton recently admitted publicly for the first time that he has a major drug addiction to marijuana and recently completed a month-long stay at a rehabilitation clinic. He also told The Associated Press that, “At this point it’s pretty evident to me that I’m a drug addict… I know that I enjoy smoking weed, I enjoy being high and I can’t block that out of my mind that I enjoy that.”
Singleton was originally traded to Houston from the Phillies in 2011 for Hunter Pence. Just last season he was suspended for the first 50 games after failing a drug test for the second time.
Since his stay at the rehab facility, the 22-year old says that he has quit using marijuana, feels better mentally and physically and is determined to assist the Astros in the upcoming season.
Hopefully, the Astros can use Singleton’s exemplary skill to their advantage in order to pull them out of their slump.
