An Odd Hotel Suite for the Foodie in You
Bob Blumer, Canadian-born cookbook author and TV personality, has an interesting approach to designing hotel rooms. When asked to design a room at Toronto’s iconic Gladstone Hotel, he came up with something so kitschy and out-of-the-box that it’ll no doubt be a hit among hipsters and out-of-towners alike. Available for $179 per night, the room features a closet wrapped in Froot Loops wallpaper, Marshmallow-branded pillowcases and wall art of the Pillsbury Doughboy.
The pop art-influenced room is one of 37 artist-designed suites at The Gladstone. In an interview Blumer stated that he designed the room based on what he liked, “something that would appeal to me, with the hope that it would always appeal to someone who would stay in it.”
Staying a night or two in a room like this may be an interesting story to tell friends and family, but living in it full-time is a whole other matter. During the interview Blumer also indicated that, “My home in Los Angeles is not that different from the feel of this room.” It’s any wonder Blumer hasn’t driven himself crazy by now.
