OCAD Campus Dining: Manpuku
Ever since OCAD moved into the Village by the Grange on McCaul Street, the Food Court has gone through a much-needed transformation. Where once stood little option, The Grange is now bustling with variety. From ethnic to organic, there is truly something for everyone… all just a short walk from Bay Street.
After a quick tour around, I am torn on what to order. Off to the side of the food court lays a bustling little Japanese restaurant called Manpuku. Weaving my way through the crowd, I find at seat at the counter and take a look at the menu. Pleased to see their student-friendly pricing, their offerings are split between rice and noodle dishes. I opt for one of each and am pleased to find out that Manpuku is also licenced.
I start with the Onigiri ($2.99), which is basically a seasoned rice-ball, stuffed with the filling of the day and wrapped in seaweed. These are a great snack to go… and apparently the word is out, as a number of them are ordered as I wait for my main. I decide upon the Wakame Udon ($4.49), which is a large bowl of miso/vegetable broth, filled with thick rice noodles and topped with seasoned seaweed. It’s a great $5 lunch.
Manpuku has a number of other dishes that incorporate everything from meat to curry. I am looking forwards to returning for Round-2… and to exploring some of the other food stands at The Village by the Grange.
