Election Day In Toronto

Torontonians head to the polls today to elect Toronto’s city councilors and mayor today. Regular polls opened at 10 this morning, while turnout for advanced ballots has more than doubled since Toronto’s last municipal election.
If John Tory or Olivia Chow is elected, it will be the first time in many years that Toronto’s mayor was not a member of the previous term’s city council.
Another point of note is that regardless of the election’s results, it is likely that Ford Nation and its brand of municipal politics will endure in many areas of the city.
Additionally, voter turnout is expected to be high; just over 50 percent of eligible Torontonians voted in 2010 while this year’s high-profile election should gather even more voters if current trends continue.
