In this day and age of heavy workloads and Ashley Madison hookups, people are less interested in the cookies and candies of conventional romance and more willing to embrace the risqué. Brief encounters that promise nothing more, nothing less than the obvious are popping up all over Bay Street in private offices, upscale hotel rooms and dimly lit bars and restaurants. The Bull is turning a blind eye to it all with our list of the city’s best spots for a discreet drink. So whether you’re meeting your boss, colleague or, ahem, best friend’s spouse, we hope you get lucky in more ways than one.
1. Proof The Vodka Bar
What could be more convenient than meeting your secret sweetheart at a hotel bar? Tucked inside the Intercontinental Toronto Yorkville, Proof is all dark corners and romantic ambience, with deep-seated couches, low-hung lamps and more than 50 types of vodka behind the bar. And with chill beats helping to get you in the mood, that one drink will likely lead to much more upstairs.

2. Martini Bar @ Pantages Hotel
What can we say? We love our hotel bars and this one ranks among the city’s most intimate. Contemporary yet cozy with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, couples here can sip classic martinis at glass tabletops or in comfy armchairs by a marble fireplace. In fact, if it weren’t for the neon green lighting, we would’ve thought we were whispering sweet nothings in the privacy of a penthouse suite.

3. The Miller Tavern
What is it about leather that makes people think of naughty things? Over at The Miller Tavern, couples will be reminded of what’s to come while sitting in dark leather booths and studded masculine armchairs. And if they need a bit of help moving things along, mixologist Rob Montgomery makes award-winning cocktails that are both sweet and seductive.

4. Pravda Vodka House
A second vodka bar made it onto our list, this one attracting a younger crowd and featuring 70 vodka varieties and kitschy Communist Russia décor. Velvet red interiors and heavy tapestries make Pravda a cozy option, made cozier still by ultra dim lighting that encourages flirtatious looks over a martini or two. Just remember to arrive early – Pravda kicks into high gear around 11 p.m.

5. The Charlotte Room
For the most illicit affairs, this discreet hideaway will be sure to keep you safe from prying eyes. Despite being bare bones and slightly outdated, The Charlotte Room makes for a laidback and, more importantly, fun after-work spot with four custom-made poker tables and seven pool tables in total. And really, what could be sexier than a high-stakes game of pool on a winter’s night?
