The Most Hated
24/7 Wall St. recently reviewed several different metrics for customer satisfaction, stock performance and employee satisfaction to determine which company is the most hated. Within these metrics it examined such things as poor service, angry employees due to unpleasant working conditions or low pay, shareholders that have had poor returns, and policies that have a positive or negative effect on consumers.
For companies like McDonalds and Walmart, their low rating is primarily due to low worker morale. An hourly wage that puts their workers below the poverty line along with poor job satisfaction has led to poor service for customers. On the other hand, BlackBerry makes the list as a result of reducing its workforce and not hopping on the bandwagon to make a line of consumer friendly phones. And then there are companies like JCPenny, which recently underwent a new store layout and pricing that only alienated customers and investors alike.
It’s amazing that these companies continue to pull in profit when such a large number of consumers hate them. But that’s what happens when businesses corner the market; they get all the perks, including our continued business (for the most part).
