Top Five Travel Apps
It’s Friday which means that a large portion of the population will be heading out of Toronto to see friends and family that reside elsewhere, whether it be across the ocean or London, Ontario. In honour of that we’ve put together a small list of apps that can help you get through the week.
- DropBox: Nothing really seems to beat this simple little app. You can set it to store your photos in the much discussed cloud or you can select which photos to upload. When you’re on a trip it’s a handy way to share moments with friends and family who may not get to experience the trip with you.
- Foodspotting: This app is great to locate restaurants, especially if you’re travelling. The app provides a visual guide to the various locations around any given city, so that you can read reviews, view pictures and even make recommendations to others. To make it easier you can even browse by location, neighbourhood, rank, category or alphabetically. The app is a lifesaver for anyone that travels to different cities and want to try out the most loved restaurants.
- Find my Friends: It’s difficult to say how you might feel about being located by anyone on your Find my Friends contact list but the app is a nifty tool when used correctly. One of the best applications of this app is as a means of direction. If you are travelling somewhere, or even if you’re in Toronto and you’ve been separated, simply track where your friend is via GPS and you won’t have to worry about directions. As you can probably guess this is especially handy in a new city, if you’ve found a place you’d like to try, or if the person you are with is terrible at providing directions.
For those of us that are going to remain in the city we’ve listed below two apps that make Toronto an easier place.
Honourable Mentions for Toronto:
- Rocket Man: There are other apps out there now that provide a similar service. However, the accuracy of Rocket Man by far makes it the best. Rocket Man uses your location to provide you with real time information on the TTC. So instead of trying to figure out the time schedules at a stop, just turn the app on, pick the appropriate bus and it will tell you how long until it arrives. Pair this with another app called Transit and as long as you know where you are going, you’ll have the bus schedule as well as directions.
- BlogTO: This app is great for finding that perfect event, bar, restaurant, hotel, or café. Really the app is superb for anything you may want to do in Toronto. While occasionally some of the reviews may be a bit out of date, BlogTO is especially useful for when you don’t quite know what to do or where to go. Just switch the app on, let it triangulate your position or pick a neighbourhood and choose what you think would be best to do.
