City Hall’s New Chair Woes

What if we told you that Rob Ford just bought 30 chairs for the council lounge, and that each chair cost $2,500 each? That’s right, apparently the city just spent $75,000 on new retro-style chairs for the members’ lounge located behind the council chamber. However, Ford isn’t technically to blame but rather the staff member who no longer works for the city.

In spite of this, Ford has taken full responsibility (kind of), saying that he “should have been on top of it, but again that’s we have managers for.”

The chairs are supposed to be replicas of the original Warren Platner chairs, which are currently in poor condition and have been placed in storage. The mayor has indicated that he wishes to auction them off in the hope that it’ll recoup some of the taxpayer’s money lost in thetransaction.

Councillor Adam Vaughan, who had two of the original Warren Platners restored and placedin his office, believes that the real crime is not restoring the originals to a usable condition.According to Vaughan, the chairs are “a piece of brilliance from the 1960’s.”
