Are Internet Ads Really This Bad?

September 30, 2013 • Business

Love It? Share It!

According to Chad Russell and Charles Butkus, their AdTrap Device was inspired by the early days of the Internet when it was nothing but ‘page, text and picture’. Since then, AdTrap has become the saving grace when it comes to filtering out unwanted spam.

The basis behind it is simple – AdTrap is designed to remove all ads from the internet before they even arrive to your network. There is security software out there that already accomplishes this by removing those pesky pop-up ads that plague certain sites. However, AdTrap takes it a step further by removing banners and other ads that tend to populate websites that offer free content.

Therein lies the trouble. A number of websites are able to offer free content to their customers due in large part by the revenue generated by ads. Advertising is how these companies are able to make money and keep content rolling out on a weekly or daily basis. CNN.com, for instance, uses this business model to provide people with articles they can read at their leisure without subscribing to a monthly rate.

The question is, are ads really this much of a strain on our internet experience that we as consumers wish to do away with them entirely? Or do the benefits outweigh the negatives?
