On the evening of Thursday, February 15, at The Cloak Bar, Bay Street Bull invited 70 of its readers and friends to an intimate, "treat-your-clients" Scotch tasting led by Glenfiddich's Canadian Brand Ambassador Beth Havers.
HERE'S A LOOK AT A FEW SHOTS FROM THE NIGHT:
Guests were welcomed to the cosy, discreet bar with Glenfiddich 12-year-old highball cocktails (Scotch, club soda, and a lemon wedge) waiting.
As the night went on, Havers introduced the crowd to three whiskies from Glenfiddich's Experimental Series, three expressions showcasing new and disruptive whiskies with unique stories behind them.
The first? The Glenfiddich IPA, a whisky finished in barrels infused with a custom-made IPA beer. Naturally, the whisky took on citrus notes and the tang of hops.
Second was the Glenfiddich Project XX ("project 20"). Glenfiddich's malt master Brian Kinsman invited Glenfiddich's 20 global brand ambassadors to the distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, and asked each person to pick one cask from thousands of inside the Glenfiddich warehouse. Havers served Project XX in a glass rimmed with salt. "The salt brings out the sweetness of the whisky," she said.
The chosen malts ranged from port pipes to virgin bourbon barrels, and the resulting whisky reveals multiple personalities: flavours of sweet cinnamon spice, almonds, and a hint of liquorice.
The last, and arguably most exciting whisky guests had the opportunity to taste was Winter Storm, finished in ice wine barrels from Peller Estates Winery in Niagara. The finished product is a delectable, easy-to-sip whisky with hints of lychee, candied fruit, and Turkish delight.
Winter Storm is a collectors item, evident in its striking white-ceramic design. The limited-edition bottles sold out shortly after their release last November.
Guests left with gift bags filled with Bay Street Bull's winter issue, a Glenfiddich whisky glass and whisky rocks.
